Crate and Barrels new modern brand

If you haven’t seen it  already Crate and Barrel has launch a new subrand or store called CB2. CB2 focuses more on modern design furniture.  It only has few retail locations  as of now, but does have  a catalog and online store.

Many of Crate and Barrels product already appealed to me as modern, but i guess I would categorize CB2 as a bit more daring.

Asimo – Design history

As an Industrial Designer’s we need to keep up with little guys like Asimo. Not only is he one of the most personable robots around, but he is on the forefront of a technology we have only experienced in TV shows, such as the Jetsons. You say he is a media tool for Honda, but I say he is a highly charismatic , highly accessible humanoid which we might learn a lot about our own human mental development.

Wacom soft nibs

I am a daily user of 18" cintiq LCD tablet. Recently I came across non standard nibs called soft or felt nibs. They changed the way I drew almost overnight. They may or may not come as an in box accessory with your Wacom tablet. But if they don’t, try, try to use one. The down side, they wear out alot faster than the standard whit nibs you may be used to. I found this image of three kinds of nibs. The ones I am referring to are the black ones, apparently there are also something called stroke nibs. Do you have any idea what the stroke nibs are?

The controls have been thoughtfully designed with supple materials which are soothing to the  touch and pleasing to the eye. Purely great industial design.

Rhino 3d improvements

If you ever used Rhinoceros you would know it is  one of the best quick surfacing modelers out there for Industrial Design. Well they have recently released version 4 of their nurbs modeler. It looks like they have made some useful improvements to the software, including, some amount of history, more robust filleting and some flamingo improvements.

You can still download an evaluation version.   www.rhino3d.com

Hottest moto I have ever seen

If you have been to the Autodesk site or to Core 77 you have seen that unbelievable motor cycle thing on the Autodesk banner. Does anybody who did that or what it is. From the portions of images that I have seen it extremely interesting and an fantastic render. I am assuming it is a two wheeled vehicle. Maybe overdesigned (alias/maya I assume)

 Check it out here.
