Wacom cintiq pen nibs

I was talking to someone the other day about my new Cintiq and I mentioned the felt tip nibs that I prefer to use. I didn’t realize that a lot of people neglect to change their pen nib type from the standard white one that comes out of the box. The felt nib is the black one shown below. It has a significantly shorter life span than the standard white one, but offers a lot more friction on the screen. Which, in my opinion, creates a much more natural drawing experience. I do find that over time a flat spot forms on the nib tip that I sometimes have to sand away with some fine grit sandpaper to get a little more life out of. There is also a spring loaded pen tip that I do not know whether is still available.

  • I noticed this at work too, but i find that a little more resistance is better.
As I dont have a cintiq, I prefer to sticky tape a piece of paper over my wacom and use the standard nib instead.

  • I love the felt too. Unfortunately mine got abused and I haven’t ordered a replacement, so I’m back to the white nib. I may have to fix that soon after this reminder.

  • I use a wacom 4.5 x 6.5 at my desktop instead of a mouse, and a Gateway tablet pc for onscreen sketching. Will upgrade to a cintiq soon. Does the cintiq support brush shape dynamics in Illustrator? What’s your preferred ergonomic position & screen tilt for the cintiq, do you use it upright like an easel, do you hunch over it, do you slurp it like a Chinese noodle bowl? Does your back hurt?
    Thanks,
    Tom
